WATCH: Maddow suggests some in Trump admin may need to “go to jail” to prevent a “new normal”

During a recent segment with guest NAACP Legal Defense Counsel Sherrilyn Ifill, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow suggested that some Trump administration official may need to “go to jail” to prevent Trump’s method of challenging the election to become “a new normal.”

Maddow said “I think a lot of people are also worried about what you were describing there, about these tactics both by the president and by his campaign and by Republicans who support him that after an election, elections officials are now subject to lobbying, subject to pressure, subject to enticement or threats in a way that should get them to do whatever their party or the party in power or anybody else who has an effect in terms of influencing them can get them to do.”

She continued “I want to go back to that not being a norm in our democracy. I’m worried that now that the Trump administration has set this precedent, it will be, and it feels like the only way to stop that becoming the new normal, at least in Republican politics, is for some people to go to jail for it or to feel like they are going to get in trouble if they get caught doing something like that. Is that the right way to think about it?”

Ironically, speaking with Jennifer Palmieri on Showtime in August, Hillary Clinton urged Biden to build a massive legal operation and not concede “under any circumstances.”

The 2016 Presidential loser says “We’ve got to have a massive legal operation, I know the Biden campaign is working on that”

She later argued “This is a big organizational challenge but at least we know more about what they’re going to do and Joe Biden should not concede under any circumstances because I think this is going to drag out and eventually I do believe he will win if we don’t give an inch.”

Hillary’s statement caused Palmieri to smile and raise up her arms and fists in agreement.
