An apparent snub by President Trump has left Democrat Senator Dianne Feinstein fuming, prompting public dissent during a televised hearing.
President Trump’s decision not to seek the traditional “blue slip” approval from the home-state Senator of his two recent 9th Circuit nominees was seen by Feinstein as a slight, which she said “harms the Senate.”
“I take it that, without notice or discussion, the blue slip is essentially dead,” mused a clearly frustrated Feinstein, who said the decision “not only harms the Senate, it harms the federal judiciary,” adding, “I really believe it’s a mistake.”
Feinstein continued, “Before President Trump took office, the blue slip had been a Senate practice for nearly one century.”
