WATCH: Obama defends Rev. Jeremiah Wright as a “supremely gifted preacher”

Appearing on “The Breakfast Club” former President Obama defended Rev. Jeremiah Wright as a “supremely gifted preacher” despite his controversial remarks.

Republican Georgia Senator Kelly Loeffler recently tweeted “[email protected] fully supports Jeremiah Wright’s “God D*** America” agenda. And he has for YEARS.”

“He’s TOO EXTREME for Georgia. He’s too extreme for the U.S. Senate. And we must defeat him on January 5th,” she added.

Obama called Loeffler’s attacks on her runoff opponent Raphael Warnock due to his connection with Rev. Wright “crazy stuff” and defended Wright as a “supremely gifted preacher.”

This, despite after 9/11 Wright said that “America’s chickens are coming home to roost.”

Here are just some of Wright’s most controversial remarks (from 2011)

“Rev. Wright is an example of somebody who – supremely gifted preacher,” Obama said during his interview “Trinity United Church of Christ obviously outside Chicago had an amazing ministry, still does. And I was very close to a lot of people in that congregation as well as Rev. Wright,”

“In national politics, if you can take out a bunch of sound bites that say ‘God damn America,’ even if the context of it is prophetic and biblical and he’s trying to describe you know how somebody might feel – he wasn’t promoting the notion that God was damning America,” Obama continued “He was making a point that if you looked at slavery and discrimination you could see the conclusion of people feeling that there was not an alignment with Christian values and America. But if you see a two-minute sound bite, trying to explain that is too complicated.”
