After 47 nights of unrest, Portland Mayor Declines Offer to Help from DHS to Quell Protests

Despite 47 consecutive nights of unrest, Portland Mayor declined help from the Acting DHS to quell protests. Mayor Ted Wheeler tweeted:

Today the Acting Secretary of Homeland Security asked to speak with me about demonstration activity in Portland. He expressed his concern about ongoing violence and asked how his agency can help.

I told the Acting Secretary that my biggest immediate concern is the violence federal officers brought to our streets in recent days, and the life-threatening tactics his agents use. We do not need or want their help.

Twitter users were quick to pounce.

It’s a shame we can’t vote you out of office Mr. Wheeler. I don’t know a person who you represent that pays taxes and is a responsible citizen. Your agenda is not the Mayor of our City but the spokesman for those who would pull our City down and make our civitas a rubble.

What about the life threatening tactics used by antifa against police officers and the people they protect? Any concern?

Just going to let your city burn at the hands of anarchists? That’s a bold strategy. Let’s see how it works out.
