In a recent tweet, actor and activist Isaiah Washington praised President Trump for his efforts towards reforming America’s criminal justice system, and his signing of the First Step Act, while criticizing former President Obama.
Washington said he voted for Obama twice, pointing out that he had been politically active, but noted that “Not once, in 8 years, was I given any support regarding Africa or the Black Agenda, but [Trump] invites me to the [White House] to celebrate the First Step Act.”
I voted for 44 twice. I even checked my emails in his Senate Office while lobbying for Salone to be given another chance to rebrand. Not once in 8 years was I given any support regarding Africa or the Black Agenda, but 45 invites me to the WH to celebrate the #FirstStepAct 🤷🏾♂️

Throughout his time in the White House, President Trump has enthusiastically approached reforming the criminal justice system, and has met with African American rights activists towards overhauling a system that appears increasingly broken.
While the mainstream media has largely shied away from covering Trump’s efforts towards criminal justice reform, his plans have drawn praise from celebrities including Kanye West and wife Kim Kardashian, and Van Jones.
