A 20 year old Californian drove his jeep off the roof of a six floor parking garage, crashing into a McDonalds.

On Sunday, February 23, 2020, at approximately 1210 am, the Santa Monica Police Department responded to the area of 2nd Street and Colorado Boulevard regarding a report of a vehicle over the side of a parking structure. Upon arrival, officers located a vehicle against the building located at the north/west corner of 2nd Street and Colorado Boulevard. The lone individual inside the vehicle was the driver, who is a 20-year-old Male from Twentynine Palms, California. The driver while injured, was conscious, suffering and speaking with officers when they arrived.
Based on the officer’s investigation, it was learned that the driver had driven his vehicle, a newer model Jeep vehicle, off the top level of Parking Structure 8 (1571 2nd Street). Officers are still investigating the cause of the incident. Due to the fact the driver was transported to the hospital and receiving medical treatment, they were unable to determine if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the incident. The officers are continuing to investigate the incident.
The Santa Monica Police Criminal Investigations Division is currently handing this investigating. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact detectives at (310) 458-8941 or the Watch Commander at (310) 458-8491.

2-23-2020 Update: As a part this ongoing investigation, the Santa Monica Police Department learned that the driver experienced non-visible health issues while under the care of the Santa Monica Fire Department. The SMFD transported the driver to the UCLA Westwood hospital in critical condition. The driver is recovering in stable condition at the hospital.
Additionally, the police department is continuing to investigate this incident. Officers have obtained a warrant for the driver’s blood to determine if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the incident. The officers have found there were two additional individuals with the driver prior to the incident; however, it does not appear that they were in the vehicle when it was traveling towards to side of the structure.
Yahoo reports Police in California are investigating after a man drove his Jeep off the roof of a six-level parking garage and into a McDonald’s across the street.
Police responded just after midnight Sunday and found a newer-model Jeep against a building, the Santa Monica Police Department said in a press release. The Santa Monica Fire Department reported it received information that the Jeep had been driven off the top of a parking garage.
The only person inside the Jeep was the 20-year-old male driver who, according to police, was conscious and speaking with officers.
The fire department extricated the man from the vehicle and he was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. He was stable as of Sunday, according to the police department. There were two other people in the Jeep with the driver, but they both jumped out before the Jeep was driven off the top of the garage, according to the fire department.
Significant damage was done to both the parking garage and the building, the fire department said.
