WATCH: Even Obama’s Former DHS Head Now Admits, “There IS a Border Crisis”

During a recent interview, Jeh Johnson, former Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security under Barack Obama, admitted that the numbers of migrants illegally entering the US at alarmingly exponential rates do, indeed, constitute a crisis.”

“My staff would tell you, if it was under 1,000 apprehensions the day before, that was a relatively good number, and if it was above 1,000, it was a relatively bad number,” Johnson said, going on to explain that current numbers are more than four times that number.

“On Tuesday, there were 4,000 apprehensions – I know that a thousand overwhelms the system,” explained Johnson, adding, “I can’t imagine what 4,000 a day looks like. So, we are truly in a crisis.”

Johnson and other Obama-era officials have broken ranks with Democrats in recent weeks regarding the growing numbers of illegal migrants at the US-Mexico border.

In a series of tweets on Friday, President Trump issued a stark warning to Congress and Mexico in regard to the growing number of illegal migrants, threatening to close the US-Mexico border as early as next week.

Pointing to Mexico’s strong immigration laws, as well as their financially beneficial relationship with the US, Trump demanded “Mexico must stop illegals from entering the US through their country and our Southern Border.”

“If Mexico doesn’t immediately stop ALL illegal immigration coming into the United States [through] our Southern Border, I will be CLOSING the Border, or large sections of the Border, next week,” said the president.

“This would be so easy for Mexico to do,” said Trump, “but they just take our money and ‘talk,'” while noting that, given the vast sums of money spent addressing illegal immigration, drugs, and other crime, “the Border closing would be a good thing!”
