Dem NY Lt. Gov. resigns after being arrested, indicted on bribery charges

Democrat New York Lt. Gov. Brian Benjamin has resigned after he was arrested Tuesday in a federal corruption investigation.

Benjamin has been indicted on charges of bribery, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, and two counts of falsification of records. He has pleaded not guilty.

Democrat Governor Kathy Hochul said “I have accepted Brian Benjamin’s resignation effective immediately. While the legal process plays out, it is clear to both of us that he cannot continue to serve as lieutenant governor. New Yorkers deserve absolute confidence in their government, and I will continue working every day to deliver for them.”

Per CBS 2 “Ironically, less than a week ago Benjamin was front and center when the governor announced a budget agreement.”
