Actress Rosanna Arquette demands “police officers left serving our communities who aren’t racist and aren’t set on killing human beings” step up and “speak out now”

In a new tweet “Desperately Seeking Susan” actress Rosanna Arquette wrote “if there are any police officers left serving our communities who aren’t racist and aren’t set on killing human beings because they aren’t white ,step up ,show yourselves now .step up front and tell us you are not racist and because as it looks to us you are Gestapo.”

In a follow up tweet she added “Speak out now against racist police killings. Stop defending killer cops now.”

The reaction was mixed.

One Twitter user replied “I’m retired police officer. The police that AREN’T racist, are the majority of police officers in the United States, and are busy doing their jobs lawfully, with integrity, and without passion or prejudice. There are literally on average 240 million 911 calls answered each year”

Another responded “Yes they are. But they need to speak up and report those who are bad. That is at the heart of the problem. Not only are officers discouraged from reporting a fellow officer, they can be threatened and/or ostracized if they do. That must stop!”

Another Twitter user replied to Arquette “please stop, there are bad apples in every group. I served in a small community for 24 years retired as Chief of Police. I never once shot anyone, thank god. An I am certainly not a racist. This is so for most officers. SO stop grouping all officers with bad apple”
