Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer stirred controversy by bringing in “Santa” to teach kids pandemic protocols including mask wearing and social distancing.
Whitmer tweeted the video and wrote “as Michigan’s kids gear up for the holiday season, I decided to surprise a few of them with a special guest from the North Pole!”

The reaction was mixed.
Some of Whitmer’s supporters appeared to enjoy the lighthearted skit.
One Twitter user wrote “This is clever, sweet and just great!” another wrote “Good god this was adorable!!”
However, others were creeped out and found it disturbing.
This is one of the most absurd things I've ever seen. https://t.co/RVKx3hCdPI

Insulting of Gov Whitmer to hire a fake Santa to gloss over the fact that hard-working people won’t be able to afford their bills—or gifts for their kids due to lockdowns. 1/3 of restaurants won’t survive this. You “keep people safe” by allowing them to earn a dignified living. https://t.co/CBgOPYOl6u

Whitmer is using Santa Claus to indoctrinate kids about the coronavirus.
Even the Grinch didn't stoop that low.https://t.co/wWMrdviRxd

"And now, my dear little ones, let me tell you the story of Krampus, and what happens to little children who don't unquestioningly obey their governor during Christmas time!" – G. Whitmer, probably. https://t.co/sREWe2kS6C
