DetroitFreePress reports drivers are flocking to Michigan’s Capitol today in advance of a noon “Operation Gridlock” protest over Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s latest stay home order that was extended to May 1 in an effort to stop the spread of coronavirus.

Though the rally begins at noon, drivers are already jamming the streets around the Capitol building as of 11 a.m.

“Everyone, every citizen, every business owner needs to get out of their house, out of their chair and get in their car, or truck, or anything that is legal to drive on taxpayer funded roads. Then drive to Lansing to circle the Michigan Capitol Building,” the Facebook event about the rally said earlier this week. “Come prepared for a traffic jam in Lansing! We WANT gridlock.”

The protest is organized by the the Michigan Conservative Coalition, a group of supporters of President Donald Trump that was founded by state Rep. Matt Maddock, R-Milford, and is now run by his wife, Meshawn Maddock.

More than an hour before the “Operation Gridlock” rally, trucks bedecked in flags, pulling boat trailers, sporting hand painted messages on their roofs have gathered around the state Capitol.

A decent amount of protesters are on foot as well.
