Meghan Markle’s own father is not a fan of “Megxit.”
Thomas Markle, 75, appears in a British documentary titled Thomas Markle: My Story, in which he shares his perspective on daughter Meghan and son-in-law Prince Harry’s recent announcement that they will step down from their royal responsibilities and move to Canada.
Markle expressed his distaste for the situation, claiming they are “cheapening” their role and “turning it into a Walmart with a crown,” the BBC reports.
“When they got married, they took on an obligation, and the obligation is to be part of the royals and to represent the royals. And it would be foolish for them not to,” he said in an excerpt of the documentary, which was filmed for the U.K.’s Channel 5.
“This is one of the greatest long-living institutions ever. They are destroying it, they are cheapening it, making it shabby. They’re turning it into a Walmart with a crown on it. They shouldn’t be doing this.
