During a recent segment of her show, MSNBC host Joy Reid said she worried blacks may not trust the vaccine “developed during the Trump era.”
Reid said “I also worry about the virus. I’m going to be honest with you. I mean the, you know, vaccine.”
“I worry that hearing that a vaccine is coming will make people even more lax,” she continued “They’ll say, ‘You know what, I’ll do what I want because a vaccine is coming.’ That’s one piece. And the other piece is when it comes, particularly in our community, black people, they might be like I don’t trust science. Tuskegee experiments, etc. There’s just not a lot of trust and it was developed during the Trump era. I’m worried about both.”
"To often, science has been a tool of white supremacy." @DrChrisMD says 'it's not the responsibility of the community to suddenly have trust but it's responsibility of the academic medical complex, health care more broadly to demonstrate trustworthiness.'#thereidout pic.twitter.com/kUCXojYkmC
