WATCH: Jerry Nadler Demands Trump “Must Be Brought to Heel”

House impeachment manager Jerry Nadler was widely mocked on social media by Trump supporters after a melodramatic declaration that Trump must be “brought to heel”

The term’s origin comes from making a dog obey.

Jerry Nadler:

But the facts are the facts. The president is a danger to the United States. He’s tried to rig the next election. He’s abused his power and he must be brought to heel and the country must be saved from his continuing efforts to rig our elections.

Scott Morefield wrote “Dramatic much?”

Anya Butcher wrote “brought to heel” is for dogs. For subordinates trying to outmaneuver the authority over then. Not for the boss. He is the President and the head of a separate AND EQUAL branch of our constitutional government. Rep Nadler, get yourself over it.”

Bring to Heel Meaning

Definition: To make a dog come close to a person and either stand at or follow his or her feet.

This expression means to call a dog to follow its master closely. If the two are walking closely together, the dog is at the master’s heels.

It can also be used idiomatically when asking that someone act in a more disciplined manner, or that the person obeys you. If a person brings someone to heel, he sets strict guidelines that the person must follow.
