Moments ago, Joe Biden tweeted “It’s official, folks. Tune in as I deliver remarks on today’s electoral college vote certification and the strength and resilience of our democracy.”
Speaking from Wilmington, Delaware, Biden addressed the nation after exceeding 270 electoral votes that are set to be certified in a joint session of Congress on January 6th.
Biden said the vote shows the state electors shows “not even a pandemic or an abuse of power, can extinguish that flame.”
Addressing Trump’s legal challenges, Biden said “they were heard again and again and each of the times they were heard they were found to be without merit.”
He called the Trump legal strategy challenging election results “a position so extreme, we’ve never seen it before.”
Biden continued by saying “respecting the will of the people is at the heart of our democracy, even if we find those results hard to accept.”
He added “That’s the duty owed to the people, to our constitution, to our history. You know, in this battle for the soul of America democracy prevailed. We the people voted. Faith in our institutions held. The integrity of our elections remains intact.”
