On Wednesday, as House Democrats pushed a measure holding US Attorney General William Barr in contempt of Congress, Republicans reacted with outrage, including Rep. Louie Gohmert, who bluntly condemned the move.
“I’m really here in mourning for a once-great Judiciary Committee,” said Gohmert, who condemned Democrats for “going after the attorney general who’s trying to clean up the mess.”

Discussing the coordinated spying effort against President Trump’s 2016 campaign, Gohmert said “We ought to be all over that, we ought to be demanding answers.”
“This was an attempted coup,” said Gohmert, who continued on to rebuke Congressional Democrats for their repeated attacks on Barr.
