ESPN Host Stephen Smith called the Brooklyn Nets’ hiring of hall of fame point guard Steve Nash as their head coach “White privilege.”
Smith claimed more experienced black coaches such as Mark Jackson and Tyronne Lue were available but passed up.
“This is one of the toughest positions I’ve ever had to take,” Smith said “Ladies and gentlemen, there’s no way around this. This is white privilege. This does not happen for a Black man.”

A lot of Twitter users did not agree with the take and fired back.
“Awful take.”
“Jason Kidd, Mark Jackson and Derek Fisher had no experience when they got hired im not saying i disagree with you just pointing out the facts”
“Disagree with you on this one. Nash is a superstar floor general and the Nets Centers pieces wanted this as well. Anyone with his resume and connections would no matter the color of their skin would get this job. D Wade would get a coaching job with ease right now as well”
“What about Doc Rivers, Isiah Thomas, and Marc Jackson? No mention of them with no coaching experience?”
Awful take.
