Democrat Nikki Fried, Florida’s 12th Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services is ramping up attacks on Florida Governor Ron DeSantis as she is positioned to take him on in 2022.
According to Politico “Fried, Florida’s only statewide elected Democrat, is trying to solidify herself as her party’s best shot at knocking off DeSantis in 2022, an election cycle that is expected to feature a crowded Democratic primary field.”
Earlier this month, Fried tweeted a video criticizing his handling of the pandemic and wrote “You won’t hear this from @GovRonDeSantis, but you need to hear it.”
“This pandemic has been painful. To every Floridian who’s lost a loved one, lost a job, lost a way of life — you are loved. We feel your hurt. Florida can and will do better,” she added.
Fried later blasted DeSantis for honoring Rush Limbaugh by having flags at half staff.
“What he’s doing is bending over backwards to honor a radio host who spent his entire career talking hate speech and talking bigotry and division and conspiracy theories,” Fried said, adding “lowering our flag should be a symbol of unity, not division.”
Fried has not officially announced she is running for Governor in 2022, but according to Politico, there is a growing sense of “inevitability.”
Fernand Amandi, a Miami-based pollster said “she’s basically telegraphed she’s running for the seat.”
