In a recent Instagram video, Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez again used the term “colonial,” a word that has been appropriated by the left to refer negatively to white people, to discuss, of all things, gardening habits.
Touting her Green New Deal, Ocasio-Cortez stressed the importance of growing plants that are “culturally familiar to the community,” and that “make sense in a cultural context,” rather than “taking a colonial approach to environmentalism.”
Instead of growing cauliflower, which AOC suggested was “colonial,” the Democrat Rep. urged gardeners to instead focus on Yucca, or other “cultural” plants.
“That is why a lot of communities of color get resistant to certain environmentalist movements, because they come with the colonial lens on them,” asserted Ocasio-Cortez.
