Speaking on Wednesday, Democrat Rep. and 2020 presidential candidate Tim Ryan expressed his fears that the Democratic Party is quickly embracing the concept of socialism, which he said could have disastrous effects.
“I’m concerned about it, because if we are going to decarbonize the economy, it’s not going to be some centralized bureaucracy in Washington DC that’s going to make it happen,” said Ryan.
2020 hopeful @RepTimRyan says he’s “concerned” about socialism and the Democratic Party.
“You can be hostile to concentration of wealth, you can be hostile to income inequality … We can’t be hostile to the free-enterprise system. That’s how we get past China.” pic.twitter.com/ahlwI09rqb

Ryan went on to explain that “it’s going to be the free market that, at the end of the day, is going to make [green energy] happen,” noting, “They have the magic of the free market. They have the innovation, the creativity, the profit motive.”
Now, with the 2020 presidential election drawing ever nearer, Democrats are scrambling to carve out positions on issues such as climate change, abortion, gun control, and border security.
For some Democrats like Rep. Ryan, the party’s rush to embrace far-left ideology coming from younger liberal politicians such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is proving cause for alarm, as they struggle to appeal to voters.
