VIDEOS: House Democrats Dingell and Lee Claim to Be “Saddened” By Impeachment

Multiple House Democrats expressed being “saddened” by impeaching President Trump.

Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI) said “This is one of the saddest days I can remember. None of us are happy to vote for impeachment, but we take an oath of office to defend our democracy.”

Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) wrote “I’m saddened but not shocked that we are considering articles of impeachment against Trump.”

CNN’s Manu Raju reports Pelosi and her staff have instructed her caucus to show unity and not to gloat at all during the proceedings, per multiple sources. She wants the public to see Democrats as taking this moment seriously and not be seen as cheering the President’s impeachment, members say.

CNN’s Dana Bash reported

“As she walked into the house chamber @SpeakerPelosi told me she “feels sad”

Speaking on the House floor, GOP Rep. Chris Stewart warned:

If this impeachment is successful, the next president, I promise you, is going to be impeached, and the next president after that.

If you set this bar as being impeachable, every president in our future will be impeached

Stewart said Democrats have been trying to impeach Pres. Trump “since before he was sworn into office.”

“This isn’t something you’re approaching prayerfully…this is something you’re gleeful about.”
