VIDEO: Cavuto Defends Chris Wallace, Tells Trump He’s Not “Entitled to Praise”

Monday, Neil Cavuto defended his colleague Chris Wallace from President Trump’s recent attack.

President Trump blasted Fox News personality Chris Wallace Sunday after a contentious exchange with GOP Rep Steve Scalise.

Trump wrote:

@SteveScalise blew the nasty & obnoxious Chris Wallace (will never be his father, Mike!) away on Chris’s lowest rated (unless I’m on) morning show. This kind of dumb and unfair interview would never have happened in the @FoxNews past. Great job Steve!

Per DailyBeast, Cavuto asked his viewers, “What makes something ‘fake news?’” before explaining that the president “doesn’t distinguish” between false reporting and journalism that reflects poorly on him.

“Now we can debate whether any crime was committed here,” Cavuto said, “but Chris challenged Scalise concluding the witnesses that testified last week didn’t see a crime committed here. That was his view of what they said, but that was not what they said.” He went on to say it “was a pity” Trump didn’t keep watching Fox News Sunday to see Wallace “just as aggressively going after” Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT).

Speaking directly to Trump, Cavuto said, “Now while it’s understandable not to like what you hear, Mr. President, it is not understandable to tune out what you would very much like to hear.” He futilely urged Trump to watch “the things you might like and, yes, the things you might not like.”

While Trump is “entitled” to his opinion, Cavuto said journalists “aren’t entitled to praise” him unconditionally—as he has come to expect from Fox’s primetime hosts. “We’re obligated to question you and always be fair to you,” he said. “We will. Even if it risks inviting your wrath.”

Chris Wallace drew the ire of conservatives when he gushed over Anti-Trump witness Marie Yovanovitch, claiming if you weren’t moved by Yovanovitch’s testimony “you don’t have a pulse.”

Yovanovitch claimed Rudy Giuliani led a smear campaign against her, leading to her firing.

Chris Wallace:

“This is a woman who had served in seven posts for presidents of both parties over more than 30 years, hardship posts, places like Somalia…She tells the story of being a leading fighter against corruption in Ukraine and being called out of a meeting, that was an event at the U.S. Embassy that was to honor an anti-corruption fighter who was later killed because acid was thrown in that woman’s face, and she’s being told by the secretary general at the State Department, you’re going to have to leave, and you’re going to have to leave on the next plane. We’re worried about your security.”

Fox News’ Chris Wallace also gave Democrats an assist when he concluded that Ambassador Taylor’s testimony was “very damaging to the President.”

House Speaker Pelosi shared the video of Wallace and added:

Donald Trump’s indefensible misconduct and gross abuse of power have been, once again, corroborated.

The evidence is piling up. According to Chris Wallace from Fox News, it was “very damaging to the President.”

No one is above the law.

Republicans had a very different take.

Rep. Steve Scalise tweeted that “The Dems’ star witness got all his info 2nd or 3rd or 4th hand.”
