On Thursday, liberals and conservatives on social media received a surprise, as Republican Senator Ted Cruz and Democrat Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez appeared to find common ground, and discussed moving forward with bipartisan legislation.
The startling turn of events unfolded as Cruz publicly noted that he agreed with AOC on a lifetime ban of Congress members from going on to serve as lobbyists.
“The Swamp would hate it, but perhaps a chance for some bipartisan cooperation?” suggested Cruz.
Here’s something I don’t say often: on this point, I AGREE with @AOC Indeed, I have long called for a LIFETIME BAN on former Members of Congress becoming lobbyists. The Swamp would hate it, but perhaps a chance for some bipartisan cooperation? https://t.co/jPW0xkH2Yy

“If we can agree on a bill with no partisan snuck-in clauses, no poison pills, etc – just a straight, clean ban on members of Congress becoming paid lobbyists – then I’ll co-lead the bill with you,” replied Ocasio-Cortez, to which Cruz said, “You’re on.”
You’re on. https://t.co/S3TBfNeO3Q

Social media users praised the move, as well as the two politicians, for putting aside their differences in an effort to address a serious issue.
OMGosh, please let this happen.
