Trump blasts McConnell, says GOP needs new leadership and “Mitch McConnell has not done a great job”

Appearing with Maria Bartiromo in a phone interview, former President Trump blasted GOP Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell and said the Republican party needs new leadership.

“I think we’re going to do very well. We need good leadership. Mitch McConnell has not done a great job, I think they should change Mitch McConnell,” Trump told Bartiromo.

“I’m looking at the right people to endorse and when I endorse people it means a lot,” Trump also said. “I think we’re going to have a great victory in 2022. I think we’re going to take back the House. Everybody’s working very hard.”

Trump did not have a problem with House Minority leader Kevin McCarthy in contrast.

“I’m working in conjunction with Kevin McCarthy and the group and I think we’re going to take back the House,” Trump said.

Appearing on Fox News himself McConnell dismissed Trump’s criticism saying “we’re looking to the future, not the past. And you want to see the future of the GOP, watch Tim Scott’s response to President Biden last night. He’s the future. That’s where we are headed. We are not preoccupied with the past”
