On Friday, the US Citizenship and Immigration Service took to social media to explain that the Trump administration will continue with its plans of requiring sponsors of migrants to reimburse the government for any benefits received.
“If the sponsored immigrant receives any federal means-tested public benefits, the sponsor will be expected to reimburse the benefits-granting agency for every dollar of benefits received by the immigrant,” explained the USCIS.
The move comes in response to a presidential memorandum signed by Trump last month, part of an overhaul of existing immigration policies.
The memo highlights the commitment of the Administration to enforcing existing immigration laws & protecting taxpayers. As part of implementation, we’ll now remind individuals at their adjustment of status interviews of their sponsors’ responsibilities under existing law & regs.

“A key priority of my Administration is restoring the rule of law by ensuring that existing immigration laws are enforced,” wrote Trump in May.
