Transgender activist wins Dem nomination for Delaware State Senate

Moments ago, transgender activist Sarah McBride wrote on Twitter “I’m absolutely overjoyed to share that tonight, we won the primary. I am the Democratic nominee for Delaware’s First Senate District. We are proving what is possible when neighbors come together.”

She added “This victory is not mine. It belongs to so many – our grassroots volunteers and donors, our cheerleaders and supporters. I am beyond proud. I am beyond grateful.”

Sarah McBride is now on track to be the highest-ranking openly transgender elected official.

In 2016, McBridge made history as the first transgender speaker at a major political convention during the DNC.

She is in a safe blue district and will be heavily favored to win the seat.
