Top Dem predicts Pelosi will give up party leadership, McCarthy anticipates “over 30 Democrat retirements” before midterms

Democratic House Budget Committee Chairman John Yarmuth has predicted that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will give up party leadership after her current post ends with the 2022 Midterm elections.

The Kentucky Democrat told the Hill “My gut would tell me that this would be her last term.”

“I see a lot of people who would be the presumed successors donating a lot of money to their colleagues,” he added.

While House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer is first in line to replace Pelosi, and House Majority Whip James Clyburn is second, betting markets believe Hakeem Jeffries is the most likely pick.

Meanwhile, GOP Minority leader Kevin McCarthy appeared confident Republicans will take back the House this year.

“There’s only a five-seat majority for the Democrats, the lowest it’s been in a hundred years,'”McCarthy told Maria Bartiromo.

“hat number 25 is a very big number for Democrat retirements. In 2010 when we won the majority, 17 Democrats retired. Already 25 — I expect that number to be up to over 30 Democrat retirements, because they see what the future holds, and they see the numbers,” he added.
