Texas Dems demand state voting machines be locked to block GOP election reform bill

Texas Democrats announced they have demanded the House journal clerk to lock the state house voting machines as a tactic to deny the Republican majority quorum needed to pass election reform legislation.

State Rep. Chris Turner (D), Chair of the Texas House Democrat Caucus and announced  “Minutes ago, at least 57 letters were delivered to the house journal clerk directing the House to lock our voting machines and not unlock them until we provide express permission to do so upon our return to the capitol.”

“It takes two-thirds of the body present to constitute a quorum, so 100 members,” he continued “and we vote in Texas and we register our attendance by use of voting machines on our desks.”

Texas House member Rafael Anchía also spoke and said “We’re not doing this for Democrats. We’re not doing this for Republicans. We’re doing this for North & South Texans, Eastern & West Texans. And, we are not going to buckle to the big lie in the state of Texas.”
