Controversial freshman Rep. Ilhan Omar is back in the headlines.
This time it’s because she insulted Hispanics in what many are calling a “racist” tweet, that she has deleted.
Daily Caller reported that Omar suggested on Tuesday that individuals from Latin America would not be competitive if the U.S. immigration system was based on merit.
“A ‘merit based’ immigration policy is fueled toward the Latinx community,” Omar said in a now-deleted tweet. “Our immigration policies shouldn’t be based on discrimination, fear, or bigotry.”
“We should welcome immigrants to our country and offer a simple pathway to citizenship,” she added.
Ted Cruz wasted no time in setting the controversial congresswoman straight.
As the son of a Cuban immigrant whose Dad came to get a math degree & become a computer programmer, I’m troubled that Dems seem to believe Hispanic immigrants can’t qualify for skills-based legal immigration. Bringing in more scientists, engineers & doctors is good for US jobs. https://t.co/iugniZgJtL

Twitter users also spoke out on Omar’s demeaning comments.
Thanks, @TedCruz, for calling out @IlhanMN for her tweet which, in her zeal for criticizing the excellent #immigration proposal of @realDonaldTrump, ended up exposing her racism.
When is the #DemocratParty going to realize that thier policies and politics are bankrupt?#MAGA

Republican Senator Ted Cruz blasted Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar over a racist tweet suggesting that Latinos would never make up the cut under a merit-based immigration system.
Omar tweeted: “A ‘merit-based’ immigration policy is fueled by racism towards the Latinx community. Our immigration policies shouldn’t be based on discrimination, fear, or bigotry. We should welcome immigrants to our country and offer a simple way to citizenship.”
In her condescending, patronizing, racist tweet, Omar suggested that Latinos are too stupid and unskilled to qualify for admission based on merit. Amid heavy backlash, Omar deleted the tweet.
Ted Cruz, the son of Cuban immigrants, was among the first to torch Omar. He also slammed the Democratic Party, whose main talking point is that a merit-based immigration system is racist.
When you think about their objections, it’s clear that Dems are the real racists — because they’re saying certain minorities are too dumb and unskilled to make the cut.
Cruz tweeted: “As the son of a Cuban immigrant whose Dad came to get a math degree and become a computer programmer, I’m troubled that Dems seem to believe Hispanic immigrants can’t qualify for skills-based legal immigration. Bringing in more scientists, engineers and doctors is good for US jobs.”
Senator Cruz is an attorney who graduated from Princeton and Harvard Law School. He is an accomplished lawyer who has argued nine cases before the United States Supreme Court. Arguing before SCOTUS is an extremely prestigious honor for any attorney.
In contrast to Cruz’s computer-scientist dad, the Somali-born Ilhan Omar was an uneducated, unskilled refugee whom the United States rescued from a refugee camp. Between the two of them, it’s clear that Ted Cruz’s father would have made the cut under a merit-based system, while Omar would not have.
