Social media commenters noted that just days before the fire, an individual linked to terrorism was jailed for a plot to bomb the Notre Dame Cathedral in 2016, leading to speculation that the fire may have been a terrorist act.

While details remain unknown, many on social media have shared pictures and video from the incident, while questioning whether or not the fire was accidental, or something far more sinister.
Others pointed out that, in recent weeks, as many as twelve other churches have been vandalized across France.

Such a tragedy seeing the iconic Notre Dame Cathedral incinerated right before our eyes. It’s so disturbing to see joy being expressed by numerous people as this beautiful, historic cathedral burns ferociously.. sad to see this happening during Holy Week.
