Duckworth was not alone in taking aim at the American landmark. CNN was brutally mocked on Twitter by conservatives for having a contributor refer to Mount Rushmore as “a monument of two slave owners.”

Zach Parkinson noted how “woke culture” has changed how media and Democrats describe Mt. Rushmore Obama visited in 2008 when Mt. Rushmore was instead called “majestic” and “quite a sight.”

Even as recently as 2016, CNN’s Jeff Zeleny called Mount Rushmore a “monument to four great American Presidents” and Bernie Sanders said “this is our country at its very best,” called it an “incredible achievement,” and said it “really does make one very proud to be an American.”
