Schumer warns he could bring Jan. 6 commission bill back to the floor after Senate Republicans kill bill “I reserve the right to force the Senate to vote on the bill again at the appropriate time”

Friday, Senate Republicans blocked a bill creating a commission to investigate the pro-Trump riot at the US Capitol on Jan. 6. The vote was 54-35, with only 6 Republican Senators joining Democrats.

In a letter to Senate Democrats, Senate Majority leader Chuck Schumer signaled he could bring the bill back.

“Senators should rest assured that the events of January 6th will be investigated and that as Majority Leader, I reserve the right to force the Senate to vote on the bill again at the appropriate time,” Schumer wrote.

During his floor speech after the disappointing vote for Democrats, Schumer said “this vote has made it official. Donald Trump’s big lie has now fully enveloped the Republican Party. Trump’s big lie is now the defining principle of what was once the party of Lincoln.”

Schumer also tweeted his displeasure at the vote results.
