Schumer Admits to Reporter “It Can’t Get Much Worse” After Day of Crushing Defeats

It was a bad day for Chuck Schumer.

So bad, he even admitted to a reporter “It Can’t Get Much Worse.”

Per FoxNews, after hours of debate during the day on Friday, the Senate voted 51-49 to block a Democratic motion to call new witnesses.

The vote came after vehement demands from Democrats to call former national security adviser John Bolton to testify about the Trump-Ukraine saga. Two Republicans — Utah Sen. Mitt Romney and Maine Sen. Susan Collins — voted with Democrats.

“A majority of the U.S. Senate has determined that the numerous witnesses and 28,000-plus pages of documents already in evidence are sufficient to judge the House Managers’ accusations and end this impeachment trial,” McConnell said after the vote.

Per CNN, after 4 new amendments proposed by Democrats failed, Schumer told reporters as he was on his way out tonight “I can’t wait to see my grandson.”

Asked by a reporter what he would say to his Republican colleagues, he said, “I say they really let down the Senate and the country. They know that Donald Trump is a vicious and vindictive president, but sometimes you’ve got to do the right thing.”

Asked how he’ll bridge the divide going forward, he said, “well, let’s hope it gets better. It can’t get much worse.”

4 New Amendments proposed by Democrats had all failed.

Prior to the vote Manu Raju described the 4 amendments.

Amendment 1) to subpoena Mulvaney, Bolton, Duffy, Blair and White House, OMB, DOD and State Department documents

Amendment 2) Schumer amendment to Subpoena John Bolton

Amendment 3) Schumer amendment to subpoena Bolton; provided further that there be one day for a deposition presided over by Chief Justice, and one day for live testimony before the Senate, both of must occur within 5 days of adoption of the underlying resolution

Amendment 4) Van Hollen amendment to require the Chief Justice to rule on motions to subpoena witnesses and documents, and to rule on any assertion of privilege
