REPORT: Schiff lobbying Gov. Newsom to be appointed California’s next Attorney General with Pelosi’s help

According to multiple reports including Axios, Rep. Adam Schiff is lobbying California Governor Gavin Newsom to be appointed the golden state’s next Attorney General.

The role was held by Xavier Becerra who has joined the Biden administration as Health and Human Services Secretary, leaving a vacancy.

According to Politico, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has also lobbied for Schiff to get the role on his behalf.

Schiff served as lead Impeachment Manager during former President Trump’s first impeachment trial and is a regular on the cable news circuit.

Axios reports that if Schiff does get the role the House will lose a strong voice for their party and temporarily lose a seat in their already slim 221-211 majority.

As Attorney General, Schiff may be better positioned to run for Dianne Feinstein’s senate seat.

Feinstein is 87 years old and may not run for re-election in 2024.
