Romney becomes the first GOP senator to say he would vote for Jan. 6 commission bill

Senator Mitt Romney of Utah became the first GOP Senator Monday to say he would support a bill passed in the Democrat party controlled House to create a commission to investigate the January 6th Capitol riot.

The move would require 60 votes (10 Republicans) to overcome a filibuster.

Romney told reporters, “I would support the bill.”

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said he will “very soon” bring the House bill up for a vote.

Republican Senator Susan Collins on Maine has started discussions with Democrats about potential amendments to the House bill.
