Republican Miller-Meeks expected to win Iowa House race by 6 votes after recount

Republican Marianette Miller-Meeks is expected to win Iowa’s 2nd district House race and defeat Democrat Rita Hart by the incredibly narrow margin of 6 votes.

The recounts in the last of 24 counties were completed with the results from Clinton County.

Miller-Meeks, who is running for the fourth time, said she expects certification Monday.

She added “my opponent then has two days to file a suit, which I have no doubt she will. The national [Democrat] party will be behind her doing this, I’m sure.”

“I will be declared the winner and take my seat in the House in January,” she added.

She also wrote on Twitter “It is the honor of a lifetime to be elected to serve the people of eastern and southern Iowa. Iowans are tenacious, optimistic and hard working, and I will take those same attributes to Washington, D.C. #ia02″

Texas Senator Ted Cruz congratulated Miller-Meeks on Twitter.

The betting market of PredictIt shows a huge advantage for Miller-Meeks to keep her lead and win the race.
