REPORT: New Dem Strategy to Stretch Out Trial May Be to Benefit Biden

According to a new report from Chad Pergram of Fox News, Democrats are looking into ways of stretching out the trial even if they lack the votes to force witnesses.

A stretched out trial could potentially benefit Joe Biden, with his rival Senators Sanders, Klobuchar, and Warren stuck in the capitol while he’s free to make his final push in Iowa.

Per Fox News, on Friday, Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyoming,  told Fox News the Democrats “could throw a few Hail Marys” to drag the proceedings out, but it wouldn’t change the outcome.

A lengthier trial could help presidential candidate Joe Biden, as two of his Democratic rivals, Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Elizabeth Warren, would be tied up in the Senate before and even during voting in the critical, first-in-the-nation caucus.

Fox News is told some of the new last-minute push could be designed to help Biden; some may be to avoid giving the president an acquittal just before State of the Union; and some may simply be that the Senate needs to give its members more say and debate.

Pergram also writes in a separate piece:

The dirtiest secret in Washington right now is that both sides truly want to get out here and escape the trial. Senators and aides are exhausted. Republicans loyal to President Trump want to exonerate him as quickly as possible.

Yes, Democrats want witnesses. But Democrats will concede privately that even if they don’t get witnesses, they can deploy the Senate’s decision as a campaign issue.

Plus, Democratic senators running for President are up in the ear of Schumer to flee to Iowa to campaign. So, this is why senators from both sides are ready to wrap this up – even if some won’t say that out loud.
