Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) has been granted a concealed carry permit in D.C.
Police Chief Robert Contee revealed the news during a press conference Thursday.
“A concealed carry permit was issued in that case,” Contee confirmed.
“As we do with all our permits, if citizens are allowed to carry, then we grant them a permit,” Contee also said “In this case, she was allowed to carry and she was granted a permit. And yes, we did reach out to the office.”
Boebert has vowed “I will carry my firearm in D.C. and in Congress” and sparked controversy as her promise made some Democrat colleagues uncomfortable.
Boebert also caused controversy when she clashed with police after setting off a metal detector in the Capitol building.
Appearing with Chris Cuomo on CNN in late January, Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said “a very considerable amount” of lawmakers “still don’t yet feel safe around other members of congress.”
