Rep. Peter King announced Monday he will not be seeking re-election.
King made the announcement on Twitter, writing:
After talks w my family I will not seek re-election in 2020. Difficult decision as my 28 yrs in Congress have been extremely fulfilling while fighting for my constituents: 9/11 & Sandy funding/combating terrorism & MS-13. I thank residents of NY2 for allowing me to represent you.

Freshman Rep. Ilhan Omar did not have kind words as a “sendoff,” responding to the news by tweeting:
Peter King is an Islamophobe who held McCarthyite hearings targeting American Muslims, said “there are too many mosques in this country” and blamed Eric Garner for his own death at the hands of police.
Good riddance

In a show of bipartisan camaraderie, Chuck Schumer had nice things to say about Republican King.
Peter King stood head & shoulders above everyone else
He’s been principled & never let others push him away from his principles
He’s fiercely loved America, Long Island, and his Irish heritage and left a lasting mark on all 3
I will miss him in Congress & value his friendship

While Ilhan Omar accused King of being an islamophobe, she herself has been accused of antisemitism, including this provocative now deleted tweed claiming Israel has “hypnotized the world.”
