Petition to recall Newsom soars to over 800k signatures

The effort to recall California Governor Gavin Newsom now has over 800k signatures, more than half of the nearly 1.5 million needed to place the recall on the ballot.

The group behind the effort has until mid-March to hit their magic number.

Senior adviser to the recall effort Randy Economy says petition signatures soared by several hundred thousand after Newsom’s “French Laundry” PR catastrophe last month.

“It has resonated. It’s about the arrogance of power,” he said.

As for their justification, the Recall Newsom site says “Gavin Newsom has failed Californians.”

They add “Unaffordable housing. Record homelessness. Rising crime. Failing schools. Independent contractors thrown out of work. Exploding pension debt. And now, a locked down population while the prisons are emptied. Hold Gavin Newsom accountable. Gavin Newsom must go.”
