Pelosi suggests this may be her last term as Speaker of the House

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who at 80 years will run for speaker for a 7th and 8th year, suggested this may be her final term.

A reporter asked Pelosi “At the start of this Congress, there was a discussion about putting in place some kind of term limits for the leadership team. I’m curious if you anticipate this coming Congress would be your last as Speaker?”

Pelosi responded “When that conversation took place, there was a move to put limits on the leadership and chairs of committees.”

She added “they said they were going to do it. They didn’t do it. Whether it passes or not, I will abide by those limits that are there.”

The reporter followed up by asking “So is that a kind of Shermanesque statement?”

Pelosi responded “No, it’s not. It’s a statement that I made.”

She continued “listen, if my husband is listening, don’t let me have to be more specific than that. because we never expected to have another term now.”

“I consider this a gift and I can’t wait to work with Joe Biden,” she added “I don’t want to undermine any leverage I have but I made that statement.”

Democrats currently hold a 221 to 209 advantage in the House, but Republicans are leading in the majority of the 5 remaining races left to be decided. Republicans are expected to have gained over 10 seats in the House from the 2020 election when all is said and done, narrowing Pelosi’s majority significantly.
