House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will introduce a 25th amendment bill as well as a “Commission on Presidential Capacity” Friday.
The legislation is expected to outline presidential transfer of power in the case in which President Trump is removed, dies or is incapacitated.
In a news release, the office of Pelosi said the purpose of the bill is “to help ensure effective and uninterrupted leadership in the highest office in the Executive Branch of government.”
The news conference taking place Friday morning will include Pelosi and Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD).
Raskin appeared on CNN with Chris Cuomo to discuss what is ahead.
Reacting to the bill, House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-SC) said “I think that the president is displaying some very erratic behavior, and I think that the American people are beginning to become very concerned about this. And so, I think that it is good for the president, or at least the people in the White House, most especially the chief of staff, to realize that he is not going to be allowed to jerk the country around and to do what seems to be whatever willy-nilly may come to this president’s head. So, this may be the kind of attention-getter that we need.”
