Ohio Bill Would Bar Transgender Athletes from Girls Sports

Breitbart reports a Republican lawmaker in Ohio is sponsoring legislation to protect female student athletes from competing against biological men, who “identify” as women.

State Rep. Jena Powell’s Save Women’s Sports Act would mandate that the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) block transgender male students from competing in girls sports.

“Women’s rights in the field of athletics are being trampled upon when we allow high school and college biological males to compete against biological women and girls,” Powell and co-sponsor state Rep. Reggie Stoltzfus, said in a joint statement. “If we want to preserve women’s rights, and the integrity of women’s sports, we must pass the Save Women’s Sports Act.”

The Dayton Daily News reported on the evolution of high school sports in the state:

The OHSAA adopted a transgender policy in December 2018 that allows athletes to participate on teams that match their gender identity. The policy requires athletes and their families to make a request to the school administration, which in turn gives notice to the state athletic association. The OHSAA executive director then takes action on the request.

The policy allows girls transitioning to boys to participate in boys sports. Boys transitioning to girls must have completed at least a year of hormone treatment or demonstrate to the OHSAA that they don’t have a physical advantage over genetic female athletes in the same age group.

“Look, biological men should not be competing in female sports,” Powell said. “This is not only in Ohio, it’s a movement across the United States.”

“We’re just trying to create fairness across the board for female athletes,” Powell said.

TCO reported while those against biological males competing with girls are worried about the physical advantages of these trans athletes, 2020 candidate Elizabeth Warren apparently thinks it’s the trans athlete that needs protecting, not the biological girls.

“Trans athletes are not a threat. We need to protect trans kids” wrote on Twitter.

DailyCaller reports Democratic 2020 candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren came out Thursday against a proposed bill in Arizona that would limit girls’ sports to biological females.

Republican state Rep. Nancy Barto’s proposed bill would bar biologically male athletes who identify as transgender girls from competing in girls’ sports. The bill comes as biological males who identify as transgender have racked up victories in girls’ and women’s sports.

“Trans athletes are not a threat,” Warren wrote on Twitter Thursday. “We need to protect trans kids — and all LGBTQ+ kids — and ensure they feel safe and welcomed at school.”

“I urge the Arizona legislature to reject this cruel bill,” the Massachusetts senator added.

Every Democratic presidential frontrunner supports the Equality Act, which would force public schools to expand female athletic teams to include biological males who identify as transgender girls.

The House passed the bill in May 2019 with unanimous Democratic support.

Per TCO, Connecticut is one of 17 states that allow transgender high school athletes to compete without restrictions, according to Transathlete.com and biological males are now taking championships from biological females in girl’s sports.

Breitbart reported Transgender sprinters recently have once again taken top spots in high school indoor track championships, reports say.

Bloomfield High School’s Terry Miller and Cromwell High School runner Andraya Yearwood, biological males who claim to be transgender girls, have once again come away with the top awards for high school sprinters in the Nutmeg State, the Washington Times reported.

Miller and Yearwood took first and second place in the 55-meter dash at the state open indoor track championships. Miller also set a girl’s state indoor record of 6.95 seconds in the event. Taking second, Yearwood ran at 7.01 seconds. The numbers are significant considering that the third-place winner — who is a biological female — only finished at 7.23 seconds.

National Review reports three female high-school students and their families filed a federal lawsuit on Wednesday seeking to block transgender athletes from competing in girls sports in Connecticut.

Selina Soule, a senior at Glastonbury High School; Chelsea Mitchell, a senior at Canton High School; and Alanna Smith, a sophomore at Danbury High School, argue in their suit that they have been personally been harmed by a policy allowing biological males to compete against them in their running events, missing their chances at championship titles, state records, and scholarship opportunities.

The three accomplished runners are suing several city education boards as well as the Connecticut Association of Schools-Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference, which in 2017 changed its policies to allow biological males who identify as female to compete in girls sports.

“Our dream is not to come in second or third place, but to win fair and square,” Mitchell said, according to the Associated Press. “All we’re asking for is a fair chance.”

“Mentally and physically, we know the outcome before the race even starts,” Smith said. “That biological unfairness doesn’t go away because of what someone believes about gender identity. All girls deserve the chance to compete on a level playing field.”

Their lawyers argue that the policy flouts Title IX, which prohibits discrimination based on sex in federally-funded education programs.

“Forcing girls to be spectators in their own sports is completely at odds with Title IX, a federal law designed to create equal opportunities for women in education and athletics,” said Christiana Holcomb, an attorney with Alliance Defending Freedom, which is representing the girls. “Connecticut’s policy violates that law and reverses nearly 50 years of advances for women.”

Per TCO, Biological males such as Hannah Mouncey have made waves by dominating female sports with an obvious, massive physical advantage.
