Newsom admits “Of course I’m worried about it” amid looming recall election, vows “I will fight it. There is too much at stake”

In a bit of a deviation after months of brushing off concerns about the recall efforts against him, California Governor Gavin Newsom admitted he’s “worried” about the looming recall election.

Over 2 million signatures have been collected in the recall effort and only about 1.5 million are needed to be verified as legitimate to force an election.

“Am I worried about it? Of course I’m worried about it,” Newsom said. “The nature of these things, the up-or-down question, the zero-sum nature of the question, is challenging, and it’s vexing.”

“I have to do my job every single day, but I’m going to fight this thing, because I’m going to fight for California values and the things I hold dear,” he said, adding that his office is taking it “taking it seriously.”

Monday, Newsom tweeted “I won’t be distracted by this partisan, Republican recall — but I will fight it. There is too much at stake. Getting Californians vaccinated, our economy safely reopened, and our kids back in school are simply too important to risk.”

Jenna ellis replied “There is too much at stake.” Yeah, freedom.
