NBC Reporter Deletes Tweet Falsely Claiming VA Pro-Gun Rally a “White Nationalist Rally”

Ben Collins who describes himself on his Twitter profile as a reporter for NBC News, dystopian beat deleted a post that falsely claimed today’s pro-gun Virginia rally is a “white nationalist rally.”

This was Ben’s original (now deleted) tweet.

Ben Collins explained in a subsequent tweet.

Hi everybody! I’m deleting a tweet so I can be super clear about tomorrow’s rally in Virginia. The Lobby Day protest is and has traditionally been a gun rights rally, but white nationalists, including militant group The Base, have been planning violent action at the event.

This has led to two different FBI arrests of 7 total people. The governor declared a state of emergency, citing “credible intelligence” of hate groups attending. Users on white nationalist forums planned meet-ups for months, a contrast to previous years.

Caleb Hull responded “Hey man, I see you deleted your tweet, but you should really just delete your entire account.”

Today’s “lobby day” rally is organized by the Virginia Citizens Defense League, a non-profit group that is pro-gun and in no way related to “white nationalism.”

Julio Rosas mocked Collins by tweeting a photo that included a multi-racial pro-gun crowd and writing “Wow, look at all these “white nationalists.”
