Naomi Osaka loses in 3rd Round after lighting flame in Olympic Opening Ceremony

Naomi Osaka, the No. 2 women’s seed in Tennis, has lost in the 3rd round of the Tokyo Olympics to Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic in a stunning upset.

Vondrousova won in straight sets 6-1, 6-4.

Osaka made 32 unforced errors. She had withdrawn from the French Open saying she needed a break to take care of her mental health.

Osaka had been given the honor of lighting the flame in the Olympic opening ceremony.

Osaka, a progressive social justice advocate once wore masks with names of those who have been killed by police including Trayvon Martin, George Floyd, Philando Castile and Tamir Rice.

Prior to the Olympics, Osaka feuded with Megyn Kelly.

It began when Clay Travis tweeted “Since saying she’s too introverted to talk to the media after tennis matches, Naomi Osaka has launched a reality show, a Barbie, and now is on the cover of the SI swimsuit issue.”

Megyn Kelly added “Let’s not forget the cover of (& interview in) Vogue Japan and Time Mag!”

In a now deleted tweet, Osaka fired back “Seeing as you’re a journalist I would’ve assumed you would take the time to research what the lead times are for magazines, if you did that you would’ve found out I shot all of my covers last year. Instead your first reaction is to hop on here and spew negativity, do better Megan [sic],”

Kelly then replied “[email protected] blocked me while taking a shot at me (guess she’s only tough on the courts). She is apparently arguing that she shot her many covers b/4 publicly claiming she was too socially anxious to deal w/press. Truth is she just doesn’t like Qs she can’t control. Admit it.”
