Mississippi Senate calls for ban on transgender athletes on female teams

According to a new report from the Associated Press “Transgender athletes would be banned from competing in girls’ or women’s sports in Mississippi schools and universities, under a bill that comes at a time of renewed focus on transgender rights.”

Republican Sen. Angela Hill of Picayune, the bill’s sponsor said “I’ve had numerous coaches across the state call me and believe that they feel there’s a need for a policy in Mississippi because they are beginning to have some concerns of having to deal with this.”

The comes around the same time the North Dakota House has passed a bill that requires all school athletes to compete on the team of their biological sex.

The HB 1298 bill passed the lower chamber 65-26 and goes to the State Senate next.
