Megan Rapinoe speaks out against bans of transgender athletes in girls sports

In a new Op-Ed for the Washington Post Megan Rapinoe speaks out against bans of transgender athletes in women’s sports taking place in multiple states.

The U.S. soccer star writes “every child deserves to have that experience.”

“That’s why I believe that all kids, including transgender youth, should be able to participate in sports they love,” she adds.

Last week, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee signed a bill requiring transgender athletes to only compete in the division of their biological sex.

Tennessee became the 3rd state to implement a law of this nature, following Mississippi and Arkansas.

Gov. Lee tweeted “I signed the bill to preserve women’s athletics and ensure fair competition. This legislation responds to damaging federal policies that stand in opposition to the years of progress made under Title IX and I commend members of the General Assembly for their bipartisan work.
