Speaking to West Virginia’s MetroNews in a Friday morning radio interview, Democrat Senator Joe Manchin said he won’t support a bill making Washington D.C. the 51st state.
“If Congress wants to make D. C. a state, it should propose a constitutional amendment. It should propose a constitutional amendment and let the people of America vote,” Manchin said.
With an evenly split Senate and VP Harris as the potential tiebreaker any defection from Democrat Senators is devastating as it is highly unlikely any Republican will support D.C. statehood.
Senator Joe Manchin, Democrat of West Virginia, told local news reporters on Friday that he would not support a bill to grant statehood to Washington, D.C., saying he believed a constitutional amendment was needed instead of legislation. https://t.co/kn1EcouCAF
