Los Angeles residents organize recall against Democratic Socialist over “radical” anti-police policies

Los Angeles City Council member Nithya Raman is facing a recall effort over policies called “too politically radical.”

Raman sparked anger after after she supported squatters at Echo park. Raman joined protesters opposing efforts by the L.A. Police Department to clear the park of a crime-infested homeless encampment.

Raman also ran on defunding the police suggesting “One way to start fixing homelessness: take the money we now spend on policing and arresting unhoused people and put it toward keeping people housed.”

The group organizing her recall effort lists their statement of reasons on their website.
